Transfers: participants are guaranteed vehicle transfer from International Airport Blaise Diagne (AIBD) to La Ferme de Sarène and back (around 50 minutes by road).

Luggage will be forwarded by vehicle from one accommodation to the next while you are trekking.

Participants: maximum: 5 riders; minimum: 1 rider (“small group” charge for up 2 riders ). Riders must be experienced in the three gaits required. Maximum permitted rider weight: 90kg. Minors to be accompanied by an adult.

The horses are Senegalese barb horses that roam free around the property for most of the year. They are barefoot horses, and are often ridden bareback or with a simple pad. For trekking, they are equipped with English saddles and stainless steel, hollow-mouth snaffle bits or Baucher snaffles.

Security instructions will be given during a briefing meeting before the start of the trek. Riders may choose whether to wear riding hats, but we highly recommend hats or headscarves to protect you from the sun.

Gaits required: the guide will suggest when to deploy the three gaits required during the trek. Long trots and gallops will often be possible thanks to the nature of the areas to be visited, and we may be able to gallop abreast or in single file, at the guide’s discretion, depending on the terrain.

Required involvement: throughout the trek, the riders will be asked to assist with grooming, saddling and feeding the horses.

Necessary items: riding hat at the rider’s discretion, hat or headscarf for sun protection, light trekking shoes or mini-chap boots, high-SPF sunscreen, anti-malarial medication, tropical strength mosquito repellent, dynamo- or solar-powered flashlight, hybrid solar charger for recharging cameras, etc.

Guide: the trekking guide is from Senegal. He has excellent knowledge of the region’s history, fauna and flora, and speaks French and English, not to mention Wolof, Serer and Pulaar!
